This workshop is for women of all ages. Let's come together and support each other while developing our craft. Writers of all levels are welcome! Each week, you'll be given new prompts--some exploring our personal experiences as women and others completely unrelated--and your notebook will fill with new pieces and plenty of inspiration.
This workshop will help you discover and/or explore your voice, develop your craft, and let go of that fear of the ~blank page~. We will follow the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) method to promote growth in a non-critical and supportive environment. This workshop will use prompt-based exercises to help you expand your craft.
This workshop is limited to 10 adult writers (17+) and runs for eight weeks
Tuesday evenings from 7-9
$360
There will be 3-5 writing exercises during each week's workshop, which will be followed by group discussion. Sharing your pieces is always optional; however, if you choose to the discussion will be positive and supportive. These pieces will be seen as rough-drafts, not yet ready for critique. Each writing exercise invites you to experiment with your craft, challenge and explore new concepts and forms of writing, without any judgement or expectations.
Writers will have the choice to explore fiction, memoir, or poetry through the writing prompts. Different forms, such as scriptwriting, personal essays, and prose, can be explored as you wish. The purpose of the exercises is to spark passion and creativity so the goal will always be open-ended. The topic and genre is ultimately up to you. The only real goal is to get words on the page and to let go of self-criticism.
If you're wondering whether you are qualified for this, let me leave you with this: just like a math teacher is someone who teaches math, a writer is someone who writes. No other qualifications are necessary. You are enough.
